Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for the Ocean Engineering and Technology Support Program, supporting the Navy Division.

  

 

JOB DETAILS

LOCATION:   Ventura, CA 

JOB STATUS: Full Time provided that the Customer awards sufficient work to support full-time employment

TRAVEL: Up to 5%

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Highest Level of Education: Master of Science Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Ocean Engineering.
  • Certification(s) required: Professional Engineering registration
  • A minimum of fifteen years’ experience in advanced technology ocean engineering systems development, five years of which must include R&D project management. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in computer simulation of the dynamic response of ocean engineering systems and at-sea operations;
  • A minimum of five years of simulation and analysis of seafloor/structure interactions, anchor design and analysis, performance of geotechnical surveys;
  • A demonstrated capability to organize and direct technical and management programs which include multi-disciplinary tasks and requirements
  • A Top Secret clearance based on an TS investigation and deemed eligible for SCI access.  US Citizenship is Required

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Navy engineers to conduct R&D on the engineering properties of seafloor soil including methods to measure and analyze; preparation of soil samples for laboratory testing; design of laboratory and at-sea experiments for the purpose of understanding and validating analysis algorithms.
  • Maintain and update a suite of software used to evaluate the seafloor interaction with hardware placed on the seafloor including settlement, breakout forces, and stability. The software is referred to as NRTGA. Assist in testing, and troubleshooting the software, develop new analysis algorithms to expand the use of the NRTGA application, and assist in writing test plans, manuals, and test procedures to deliver the system to the field. The contractor shall perform general geotechnical numerical modeling (beyond NRTGA efforts – e.g., FLAC, OPTUM, PLAXIS, SIGMA_W etc.) and provide support of physical modeling / testing, including instrumentation, data acquisition and reporting.
  • Provide labor and material necessary to participate in Integrated Project Teams (IPT) for offshore testing of a new geotechnical survey suite and update and provide training materials and technical manuals necessary for delivery of the system to the field.
  • Participate in IPTs and design reviews for the advanced Expendable Doppler Penetrometer (XDP) configurations and provide additional support for technical refresh of the NRTGA application for the XDP.
  • Develop analytical methods for impact settlement, long term breakout, and other seafloor interactions necessary to support new NRTGA analysis methods.

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four years’ experience above the minimum level required may be substituted for the Master’s Degree requirement. A Bachelor’s degree in Ocean, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering is required if experience is substituted for a Master’s degree.
  • A Doctoral degree (PhD) may be substituted for four years’ experience.

 

SALARY RANGE: *Starting salary: $135,000 + annually
