Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Technician I to assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s Naval Architecture and Engineering Department in achieving new or improved understanding in concepts and technology, fundamental and applied research of the marine environment, engineering and naval architecture, hydromechanics, maneuvering and control, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • One (1) year of full-time professional experience as an Engineering Technician, performing the following skills:
    • Welding (MIG, TIG, stick, and gas) or machine operation (lathes and mills),
    • Sheet metal fabrication
    • Interpreting models and drawing packages.
  • Basic CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machine operation experience, basic drafting skills, creating detailed drawings using CAD software, and relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines to create/modify documentation.
  • Current Secret Clearance

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under project deadlines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include one or more of the following in support of Prototype Fabrication:

    • Perform Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and/or Oxy-fuel welding. Ensure that all welding operations are performed within the requirements of Industry certification standards.
    • Perform sheet metal fabrication operations in accordance with NSWCDD supplied engineering drawings
    • Perform Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and non-CNC mill and lathe operations
